About Us

For over 80 years, United Way of Central Maryland has connected people who need help with people who can help by uniting, focusing and mobilizing central Maryland’s most influential companies, non-profits, governments and caring citizens.

Mission

United Way of Central Maryland's mission is to improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities.

We help people in crisis. But United Way goes much deeper than that. We take aim at the root causes of the toughest problems our community faces.

For example, infant mortality is a critical issue in many of Baltimore’s poorest neighborhoods. United Way of Central Maryland’s Success By 6® initiative worked hard to address the causes: Malnutrition, substance abuse, neglect, poor neonatal care. And today, Baltimore’s Success By 6® neighborhoods have seen a 15 percent reduction in infant mortality.

Volunteers

It’s not just about money. It’s about time and talents. And volunteers are United Way of Central Maryland’s lifeblood.

More than 2,000 people volunteer for United Way of Central Maryland. They lend their expertise to help make important decisions about program funding, campaign fund-raising and organizational strategies. Another 1,500 or more people participate in hands-on community service opportunities.

Through shareyourself.org, United Way of Central Maryland's new volunteer opportunity matching tool, we've made finding community service opportunities as easy as a click of the mouse.

Donors

United Way raises over $40 million a year for health and human service agencies across our region through the generous donations of people like you. Most give to United Way's annual Community Campaign through workplace donations. Supporters also include charitable foundations, businesses and individuals that contribute to United Way's endowment and special initiatives.
