What is your favorite ELU event and why?
My favorite ELU event is also the very first ELU event I ever attended – the Annual Young Professionals Conference. I love how it incorporates everything ELU has to offer its members and prospective members – professional development, networking and giving back/volunteerism. I’ve had the pleasure of attending each year since 2014 and witnessing the growth and transformation firsthand. The quality of the speakers is top notch and the networking is unbeatable. I’ve met some of the best people I know at this conference.

Why do you think ELU is such an important program?
ELU is so important, because it connects young professionals to each other and the communities in which they work and live. Those young professionals will move into leadership positions, and the experiences and knowledge ELU provides will have a lasting impact.

Why did you get involved with ELU and United Way?
I was looking for a platform to engage with other like-minded young professionals and the community. When my previous firm was holding an annual giving campaign and I read a description about ELU, I thought to myself, this could be exactly what I need.

What is the most important role that young professionals play in bettering our community?
Lead by example. Beyond that, I don’t believe there is one answer that fits all here. I think it’s about finding the thing that really motivates someone and harnessing that passion to contribute to change.

What are you most thankful for?
This is an easy one – my family and friends.

You couldn’t pay me to…
Cheer for the Steelers!

Why did you get involved with ELU and United Way?
I got in United Way back in college as a member of the Southeast Georgia United Way Board of Directors. I saw, and continue to see, United Way making an impact in the community in a positive way. When I moved to Maryland and graduated from law school, I was introduced to a young ELU member and thought it was a good way to support the mission of United Way by working with a group of similar-minded professionals to build connections and make our community better.

What is your favorite ELU event and why?
Harvest Helpers. It allows me, along with my family, to give back to those in need while connecting with other professionals and their families.

Why do you think ELU is such an important program?
ELU gets people involved in a fun and inviting way, but weaves in United Way and our partner programs. It is a “come for connecting, but stay for helping people” kind of group.

What is the most important role that young professionals play in bettering our community?
The most important role for young professionals is to connect with their peers to be a force for good. There are a lot of people trying to make a difference out there, and United Way has empirical evidence to back up the work they do.

What are you most thankful for?
The fact that I live in a country where I can go from being homeless myself as a child to being able to help families in need.

You couldn’t pay me to…
Go snow skiing. If the activity is something cold, I’m out.

Why did you get involved with ELU and United Way?
I wanted to expand my professional circle outside of the folks I worked with and connect with like-minded individuals. I saw engaged members aspiring to make positive social change and who believed in giving back to the community. In addition to the various volunteering opportunities, ELU provides opportunities for professional development that I feel are paramount for young professionals like myself who have the drive to continue to grow and excel in the workplace.

What is your favorite ELU event and why?
The annual ELU Young Professionals Conference, primarily because it is a great forum for professional development, and because the sense of camaraderie from belonging to an actively engaged community is positively overwhelming. The speakers are exceptional, and the content of the sessions is relevant and easily applicable to my day-to-day life.

Why do you think ELU is such an important program?
ELU is a holistic program that provides opportunities to help one grow professionally, become an active member of the community and eventually expand one’s professional circle. If it were not for being an ELU member, I probably would have never crossed paths with some of the Senior Leadership at my workplace, which to me emphasizes the importance of being a member of ELU. This group can truly help young professionals build meaningful professional relationships.

What is the most important role that young professionals play in bettering our community?
They bring pragmatic vision to help mobilize resources to generate community change combined with a drive and passion to make an everlasting impact.

What are you most thankful for?
I am grateful to be part of ELU and to be on the front line to foster positive social change that changes lives and builds a better, stronger community.
