Nonprofit Agency Funding
Community Investment Process
For nearly 90 years, United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) has been the region’s human service leader. As an independently governed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we support programs and initiatives in the city of Baltimore and the five surrounding counties. UWCM supports a continuum of services that strive to help individuals and families facing poverty achieve financial stability, good health and ultimately, self-sufficiency.
UWCM has multiple opportunities each year for nonprofits to submit applications to receive grant funding. Annnually, nonprofits can submit an application to receive Community Impact Grants of up to $75,000. Funding decisions for the Community Impact Grants are made by local Community Partnership Boards, who are provided with local and regional data about human service needs, gaps and best practices. Poverty and population data are used to determine how much funding is available for distribution in each jurisdiction. Grantees are required to file quarterly outcome progress reports with UWCM, which are then shared with the Community Partnership Boards, who ensure accountability for results.
Quarterly, charities have the opportunity to submit an application to receive Community Response Grants of up to $7,500 for both programmatic and immediate needs throughout the year, instead of waiting until the annual Community Impact Grant competitive funding cycle.
