self-sufficiency to central Marylanders facing poverty.
Why United Way?
We understand the community’s needs.
We are local and truly understand the challenges facing central Maryland. United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) is headquartered in central Maryland, with staff located in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. Our staff and volunteers live here and are invested in the livelihood of all our central Maryland neighbors.
Through local partnerships, 2-1-1 Maryland at UWCM, Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) and Community Issues Management (CIM), UWCM has the data and resources available to truly understand what is going on in every central Maryland community.
We help those who are most vulnerable.
We work with our local partners to keep our fingers on the pulse of health and human need across central Maryland. What comes through loud and clear is to focus on the poor and at-risk. UWCM supports health and human services that help people get out of crisis, stay out of it and achieve high-quality, self-sufficient lives.
We understand what works.
For 86 years we have worked with leading health and human service providers across the region and have identified the most effective strategies to improve the most lives.
We help donors and the community make informed choices.
Our local expertise combined with our network of agency, government and corporate partnerships across central Maryland helps us identify where donor resources are best leveraged and which comprehensive services to support and achieve the greatest long-term solution. No need has one solution.
We make the most of time, energy and dollars for the greatest good.
Last year, our fundraising, educational efforts and programs resulted in more than 1,600 nonprofits receiving support. This allowed them to focus on what matters most—helping people in need—without spending time or incurring the costs of raising the funds themselves.
We are accountable.
Every year we receive the highest rating possible in our annual independent audit. We have also held the Standards for Excellence® certification from Maryland Nonprofits since 2000.
We respect your right to make your own choice.
We help you make an informed choice, but it is YOUR choice. You can choose UWCM and give to urgent basic needs such as food, shelter and access to healthcare region-wide or in the jurisdiction of your choice, or give through us to any health and human service organization in the U.S.
Your donation is 100 percent tax deductible.
Contributions to UWCM are tax deductible within the limits of current federal and Maryland state law. No goods or services are provided in exchange for your contribution. A copy of the most current financial statement is available upon request by contacting United Way of Central Maryland at P.O. Box 1576, Baltimore MD 21203-1576, 410-547-8000.
