What is a workplace campaign?
A workplace campaign is an innovative way of team building that enables your organization to rally around a common cause. The result is thousands of your friends, neighbors and residents throughout the community get the help they need, the support they lack, the inspiration to move forward in their lives.
Your campaign is supported by UWCM staff that specialize in workplace campaigns. They will provide expert advice on best practices that have been successful not just in central Maryland, but across the country.
What can we expect if we participate?
Your organization will be listed on our website, annual report, recognition publications and local publications. Other local media opportunities may arise throughout the year. There are more than 600 companies in central Maryland that run campaigns annually.
How can a small company participate?
A UWCM workplace campaign is not restricted to a particular size company. No company is too small or too large to run a campaign. Every donation made to UWCM is a life-changer to program recipients.
Are there ways to be involved with and support United Way of Central Maryland, without or in addition to a workplace campaign?
We are grateful for any kind of support. Some ways companies have been involved, in addition to or instead of a workplace campaign, include: corporate gifts, underwriting/sponsorship of an event or marketing effort (which would also help to raise the company’s own visibility), or another custom option. UWCM’s staff would be happy to work with a company to determine the best and most creative way to be involved.
How much time will the campaign require?
The campaign can run from one week to one month. UWCM staff will provide guidance to you on how the campaign best fits your company needs. There are also opportunities for UWCM staff to help to run the campaign on your behalf.
How do donations to United Way of Central Maryland help the community?
We are committed to meeting the basic needs of those in greatest need. This means getting people out of crisis, keeping people out of crisis and helping people achieve a better-quality, independent life. By drawing upon local knowledge, data and expertise to understand the community’s needs, UWCM is able to identify where gaps exist and concentrate on what works in addressing them, serving as a powerful advocate on critical health and human issues.
How much money are employees expected to give from their paychecks?
Whatever they are comfortable with, starting with as little as $1 per week. You’d be surprised how much of a difference a seemingly small contribution can make:
$5 per month supplies six pounds of fresh produce to a hungry family each week for one year.
$5 per week purchases a year’s worth of medication for an uninsured couple.
$5 per day provides one month of permanent housing and supportive services for a family of four.
Is there a minimum participation we have to have to run a workplace campaign?
Not at all. Running a workplace campaign gives employees the opportunity to give back, but participation is completely optional.
