Agency Funding

United Way of Central Maryland’s funding process is limited to non-profit organizations providing services in central Maryland. There are several ways in which non-profit organizations, with a 501 (C) 3 designation, can receive financial support through United Way of Central Maryland. Organizations can seek financial assistance through United Way of Central Maryland’s workplace campaign programs, Request for Proposal (RFP) and Regional Discretionary Request for Application (RFA) processes.

Request for Proposal (RFP)

Non-profit organizations must be able to demonstrate that their programs/services align with one or more of United Way of Central Maryland’s Community Impact areas.  The four impact areas identified through the Community Agenda-Setting and implemented by United Way of Central Maryland are:  Basic Need, Family Safety, School Readiness and Youth Achieving Potential.

United Way of Central Maryland utilizes Impact Council members, who are impact issue area experts, to support our staff in the selection and monitoring of our partner agencies.

Important Note 2/17/10:

UWCM Board of Directors and management team has launched a comprehensive strategic review of our programs, operations, efficiency and effectiveness which we expect to conclude by June. We are therefore deferring the next grant funding cycle to ensure that our funding decisions and processes are fully aligned with the goals and objectives set forth in our revised strategy. We anticipate the next funding process will be announced in July 2010. We will be sure to keep you apprised as details are crystallized.

Regional Discretionary Request for Application

The RFA process is opened annually based on the funding availability  generated through United Way of Central Maryland’s campaign and other fundraising initiatives.

Community and faith-based organizations, with a registered nonprofit
designation that is in good standing, will be given the opportunity to apply to a publicly solicited RFA based on the four impact areas.

Non-profit organizations must be able to demonstrate that their programs/services align with one or more of United Way of Central Maryland’s Community Impact areas of Basic Need, Family Safety, School Readiness and Youth Achieving Potential

United Way of Central Maryland utilizes the regional Partnership Board to support our staff in the selection and monitoring of our funded agencies.

United Way of Central Maryland does not seek, nor fund, unsolicited grant applications. All grant making activities are restricted to the RFP or RFA processes. In any given year, we have limited resources to fund additional, unsolicited proposals.
