Job Description    
This position is critical to the successful implementation of electronic campaign pledging and is responsible for creating customized web-based pledging sites for 25-40 company fund raising campaigns, loading the appropriate data and custom variables, managing the site, electronic communications, customer support and working with a third party processor to export and load data into United Way’s backend processing system. 
  • You will provide demonstrations of electronic pledging tools to the companies we work with to conduct fundraising campaigns and work directly with internal and external contacts to determine the scope of their needs.
  • You will ensure that data is received in a timely manner and in the correct format from companies .
  • You will work with internal campaign staff to obtain graphics and content to develop the campaign websites, configure, manage and customize variables as needed
  • You will provide training to end users and assign administrative privileges .
  • You will regularly monitor websites for pledging activities and address any anomalies or irregular situations as they occur and serve as primary customer services representative.

Qualifications  
AA degree (Bachelor preferred) with at least 2 years experience working with an electronic pledging  system or in a related field.  Experience with direct external customer interaction and ability to apply analytical skills and creative problem solving to situations with successful solutions.  Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills and meet established deadlines.  Be able to work under pressure and keep all work current and accurate.

Assistant Director, Major Gifts

Description

United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) is dedicated to advancing change in every corner of our region. Our goal is to help mobilize this community so that every member of society plays a role in advancing the common good in central Maryland. We're here to help bridge the gaps. UWCM is only as strong as the people who support us and part of the reason for our success each year is the number of dedicated staff and volunteers who help us. We utilize a number of vehicles to encourage people to donate. From workplace campaigns to matching fund grants, options for giving are vast. Encouraging the community to give can be an arduous task. This position raises funds and cultivates relationships through the development and implementation of best practices in the Women’s Leadership Council and WINGS.  This individual oversees the Women’s Leadership Council and aspects of the Tocqueville effort including special events and solicitation of prospects and will develop strategies to support the five WLC values: Philanthropy, Advocacy, Networking, Mentoring & Volunteering.
  • You will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of United Way’s community impact core program area(s), both needs and strategies, and clearly articulate the efforts to address them in central Maryland.
  • You will recruit and retain major donors by identifying their needs, wants and desires and purposefully match them with the concepts of the work of United Way.
  • You will enhance the presence of United Way in the community ensuring that UWCM is in the forefront of the minds of community leaders and prospective donors.
  • You will increase fundraising efforts and cultivate relationships through the development and implementation of best practices in the Women’s Leadership Council and other initiatives.
  • You will be responsible for the recruitment, training and management and recognition of top level executive volunteers, assist in staffing volunteer leaders on various campaign related committees and accompanying them as needed to assist in soliciting gifts personally in face-to-face meetings.
  • You will become knowledgeable about UWCM's areas of most need and be able to present information in an engaging way either through presentations or other messaging strategies.
  • You will develop strategies to increase workplace campaigns and manage a communications plan to include year-round communications with all high level donors through a Major Gifts newsletter, web site and bi-monthly  E-newsletter.
  • Your role entails being an ambassador and advocate of UWCM throughout daily activities both internally and externally and to actively engage in business networking opportunities that will increase our ability to impact positive and lasting change throughout the central Maryland region. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 5 years related experience with demonstrated fundraising techniques to increase dollars raised and levels of participation.  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to recruit and manage high level volunteers.  Be an effective communicator (written and oral)  and be able  to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.  Flexibility and ability to manage objections, issues and crisis calmly and effectively while demonstrating a professional image to positively represent UWCM at all times. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.

Director, Marketing & Communications

Description

If you’re an experienced marketing and communications professional who believes central Maryland can be a better place, United Way of Central Maryland has a unique and exciting challenge for you.

As director, you’ll oversee all United Way of Central Maryland’s (UWCM’s) media outreach efforts and you’ll be responsible for directing the creative process and developing strategies for integrating UWCM’s print, broadcast and electronic communications efforts.  You will be the chief copywriter for all the organization’s many marketing, sales and donor materials.

You’ll report to the senior vice president of marketing, planning and governance and you will supervise the assistant director, e-marketing , graphic design administrator and part-time web development specialist. You’ll write speeches, news releases, briefings, fact sheets, talking points and many other important pieces for the press, the public, the board of directors and other key audiences. Then you’ll write brochures, items for web sites, annual reports and other key marketing materials to tell the organization’s rich story.

As a key part of the best nonprofit marketing team in Baltimore, you’ll listen to the needs of colleagues in both the fundraising and impact strategies divisions at United Way to determine the best way to meet their many needs in the most efficient and cost-effective methods.

Working closely with the senior management team, you’ll manage the day-to-day function of media and public relations of one of the nation’s most trusted nonprofit brands.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven years experience  working in an ad agency, public relations or journalism.  Experience with nonprofits a plus. Executive Assistant

2-1-1 Maryland Information and Referral Specialists
 

Description

Working here at United Way of Central Maryland, you will become a part of the bridge that links people with health and human services across Maryland.   2-1-1 Maryland connects callers to specialists trained to help find solutions.   Become a part of the 2-1-1 network of specialists by joining the information and referral team with United Way of Central Maryland's First Call for Help. 

You will be actively engaged and involved in using a comprehensive database of up-to-the minute local, state and national resources to cut through the confusion and connect callers to the services they need. 2-1-1 Maryland is a confidential connection to critical information on basic needs such as shelter, utilities, physical and mental health, ,support for children, youth and families, volunteer opportunities and needed donations to name a few.   You will also be instrumental in tracking call trends to help identify needs or gaps in service and providing a more accurate picture of local needs.

You will interview callers, assist with problem solving and assess service needs by applying your active listening skills; utilize the comprehensive database to identify appropriate resources and provide information on eligibility requirements and service availability; recognize and respond appropriately to persons in crisis and maintain accurate records on each contact with clients.  You will also serve as a spokesperson on community needs and human service issues to community groups, agencies and other organizations.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services or related field with at least one year of experience in a human service organization.  Have knowledge of the human service delivery system and be able to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.   Be able to effectively interview service providers, problem solve and possess excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word and use the computer to research resources (a computer assessment on Microsoft Word will be given to candidates).
