Bell Abzug once said “this woman’s place is in the House – the House of Representatives.” How true it is. But you don’t have to be a politician or activist like Abzug was to make a statement. Advocacy and networking are two more core values the Women’s Leadership Council abides by. The two go hand-in-hand as advocacy is much more than marching on Capitol Hill or in Annapolis. To advocate is to defend or maintain a cause. It means to speak or plead in favor of. That could be in a courtroom, in a legislative building or at the local coffee shop. Whether you’re meeting new people and building relationships, sharing information about the work you’re helping United Way do or if you’re standing on lawyer’s mall getting ready to lead a group into the Maryland General Assembly – you have the power to get a message out.
