  • In central Maryland, there were 12,425 reports of domestic violence crimes in 2006.
  • There were 494 forcible rapes in central Maryland in 2006.
  • There are more than 15,000 reported cases of child abuse and neglect in central Maryland. That represents 50 percent of the state’s totals.

The Work in 2007:

  • More than 140 victims accessed legal representation and received a positive legal outcome.
  • Nearly 22,000 individuals and victims received information they needed to find critical resources available within the community, 234 percent more than originally projected by United Way.
  • More than 4,000 domestic violence/sexual violence/child abuse survivors received the necessary tools to make them stronger.

The Vision for central Maryland:

United Way looks forward to a central Maryland where men, women and children are healthy and safe from violence and abuse.
