MAKE YOUR LEGACY COUNT
United Way’s Tocqueville Society was created to acknowledge and honor those individuals whose leadership and dedication to the common good have been uncommon in generosity. Over the years, United Way has also been proud to create a Legacy Circle, made up of donors who have made a commitment that takes the next step in safeguarding the future of our community by ensuring that United Way of Central Maryland is able to fulfill its mission for years to come.
The gifts of Legacy Circle donors are perpetual investments that will forever improve lives, strengthen communities and ensure the ability to meet future needs.
 
 
TOCQUEVILLE LEGACY CIRCLE
The United Way Tocqueville Legacy Circle was created to honor current Tocqueville Society members who have also made legacy commitments of $200,000 or more. These Tocqueville Society members are visionaries, making gifts that contribute to lasting change. The legacy commitment may be:
  • A realized deferred gift of $200,000 or more received from a bequest or similar vehicle
  • An outright gift or documented written pledge of $200,000 or more to the United Way of Central Maryland endowment fund
  • A written notification of a revocable or irrevocable planned gift arrangement such as a provision in a will, a life insurance policy or a split interest with a face amount or death benefit of $200,000 or more
 
LEGACY CIRCLE
When you give to United Way through our Legacy Circle program you are establishing a never-ending gift to your community. Your commitment establishes an example of generosity that encourages others to give back in ways that have quantifiable impact and will live on.

Will Bequests
- General Bequest (designated sum)
- Percentage Bequest (percentage of a donor’s estate)
- Specific Bequest (bequest of a particular asset)
- Residuary Bequest (balance after other specific bequests are satisfied)
 
Deferred Gifts
- Naming United Way as the beneficiary of a retirement account
- Life Insurance
- Pooled Income Fund
- Reserved Life Estate
- Charitable Remainder Unitrust*
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust*
- Charitable Lead Unitrust*
