UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL MARYLAND RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE COMCAST FOUNDATION
Baltimore, MD (October 28, 2009) – The Comcast Foundation has awarded United Way of Central Maryland a grant in the amount of $11,980 as part of its annual Comcast Cares Day contributions. The Comcast Foundation awarded the grant on behalf of Comcast employees, family members and friends who assembled “literacy totes” for disadvantaged families across the region on Comcast Cares Day, Comcast’s annual, nationwide day of service. Totes were hand-decorated and prepared by Comcast Cares Day volunteers and each contained a book donated by Comcast employees along with other literacy-related items.
“Our mission is to improve people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities,” said Larry E. Walton, president of United Way of Central Maryland. “There is no greater example of this than companies like Comcast who engage employees and give not only money, but their time to make a real difference across the region. We’re grateful for their ongoing generosity and proud to call them a partner.”
The Comcast Foundation grant will be used to help United Way of Central Maryland continue its work stabilizing families and helping them meet essential needs during a tough economy.
“Comcast Cares Day is part of our year-round commitment to improving the quality of life in our local communities,” said Fred Graffam, regional senior vice president for Comcast. “The Comcast Foundation grant commemorates Comcast’s partnership with United Way of Central Maryland for Comcast Cares Day and beyond.”
The grant was presented in recognition of Comcast’s commitment to the communities where its customers and employees live and work. Since its founding in 1999, The
Comcast Foundation has given more than $64 million to non-profit organizations in Comcast communities nationwide.
