LOCAL UPS EMPLOYEES DELIVER MORE THAN PACKAGES TO COMMUNITY
UPS Company, Employees and Retirees Donate $61 Million Nationally to United Way

Baltimore, MD (February 5, 2008) – Last year, UPS, its employees and retirees in the Baltimore area contributed more than $500,000 to the 2007 United Way of Central Maryland campaign.  When combined with national contributions, for the eighth consecutive year, UPS delivered record-breaking contributions and are once again United Way’s top national contributor, pledging $60.8 million during the 2007 United Way campaign.

“UPS is a company built on a passion for philanthropy and care for our communities,” said UPS Vice President Atlantic District and United Way of Central Maryland Board Member Mike Boos. “At UPS, we are proud that our employees deliver more than packages to the community. Through many volunteer hours and donations, UPS and its employees in the Greater Baltimore area are active partners of the United Way and other local charities. Just like the United Way, UPS believes in delivering on the commitment to improve the communities where we live.”

Baltimore area UPS employees volunteered hundreds of hours of service, which included landscaping for organizations, reading to children, assisting food banks and much more to contribute to the more than 960,000 hours volunteer nationally.

“United Way of Central Maryland is very proud of our partnership with UPS on a national and local level,” said Larry Walton, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Central Maryland. “Year after year, UPS and its employees in the Greater Baltimore area demonstrate a true commitment to the community by carrying out UPS's philanthropic message."

More than 246,000 UPS employees participated in the overall 2007 United Way campaign, contributing more than $52.8 million with contributions still coming in. The company matched those donations with an additional $8 million through The UPS Foundation. Overall, this is a $1 million increase over their 2006 campaign contributions and a three percent  increase over goal.  In the 26 years UPS has supported United Way, the company and its employees have donated an astonishing $872 million.
