UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL MARYLAND COMMITS TO 1,500 HOURS OF SERVICE FOR NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

Baltimore, MD (April 28, 2008) – United Way of Central Maryland is proud to celebrate National Volunteer Week by partnering with the community to generate at least 1,500 hours of service.

Between April 27 and May 3, a variety of projects will take place across central Maryland. United Way’s corporate partners and their staff, as well as United Way staff, will take on multiple activities – from helping at a transitional homeless shelter in Anne Arundel County to preparing meals in Baltimore City.

The efforts are all part of United Way’s commitment to volunteering. Through shareyourself.org, United Way’s free, online volunteer center, people across the region can find opportunities to share their time and their experiences year round.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 by President Richard Nixon to celebrate volunteering.
