Although moms deserve our gratitude all year long, Mother’s Day offers a special opportunity to say thank you. At United Way of Central Maryland, we want to thank all mothers, both those who give, advocate and volunteer to help our neighbors in need, and those moms who may be struggling right now. Many mothers in our community are worried about losing their home or wondering how they are going to feed the kids tonight. Those are the moms who could really use encouragement this Mother’s Day.
And that’s just what our Women United members did yesterday. These dedicated women leaders donated gently used purses, scarves and jewelry for an “Accessory Exchange.” Then, they came together and volunteered their time to make gift bags for the mothers of children attending Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford County, United Way’s partner agency. Nearly 160 beautiful gift bags were created, and the children will choose one tomorrow to give their moms.
But we don’t just stop there. Thanks to our generous supporters, United Way of Central Maryland and the 2-1-1 Maryland United Helpline assist individuals and families every single day, whether it’s helping a single mom avoid eviction, providing job training and placement, or providing assistance with food and utility bills. No one can create change alone, but together, we can change the odds for families and communities. Including moms.
