What is Emerging Leaders United?
Emerging Leaders United (ELU) is a network of more than 1,500 young professionals from across central Maryland who are actively seeking ways to give, advocate and volunteer to make our community a better place while furthering their own professional growth. Members represent more than 150 top companies in the region and vary from public, private, nonprofit and government sectors.

What type of events do you hold?
ELU holds monthly events that vary among volunteer opportunities, networking events and panel discussions. Our signature event is an annual leadership conference for young professionals that takes place in May. For more information, see our events calendar or view past events.

How often are events?
Events occur anywhere from one to five times per month.

Do events cost anything?
The majority of ELU events are free to members and a nominal fee ($5–$30) for non-members. Volunteer events are always free to all participants.

Do I have to join ELU to participate in events?
No. The majority of events are open to the public (members and non-members). The main difference is the cost to attend. We want ELU to be available to any and all young professionals interested in participating.

How can I join?
It’s easy! You can officially join right here or through your United Way workplace campaign. Just make a $260 donation to United Way over the course of a year. You can make a one-time payment or divide it into weekly, monthly or quarterly payments.

Is there an age requirement to participate or become an ELU member?
ELU is for people between the ages of 21 and 40 but if you’re young at heart, you’re always welcome to join us!

Does my profession or career stage matter when getting involved with ELU?
Absolutely not! We pride ourselves on having a diverse group of members with all different professional backgrounds.

How many members do you have?
More than 1,500 and counting.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?
Enjoy many meaningful benefits as an ELU member, including opportunities to:

  • Access to a network of like-minded, compassionate young professionals all working toward the same goal of changing the odds for our neighbors in need
  • Work toward your personal and professional goals
  • Hear from and interact with influential local and national leaders
  • Spend more time volunteering
