One would never guess that Alice, a confident executive with a thriving career, had been the victim of domestic violence not long ago. A trip to the emergency room was the last straw, giving her the motivation she needed to leave her abusive husband and enter a safehouse funded in part by United Way of Central Maryland. Alice’s three month stay at the safehouse equipped her with the strength and resources she needed to sign a lease on her own apartment and land a great job, where she was quickly promoted to a leadership position. Alice stands proud now, and credits the safehouse for saving her life.
