United Way of Central Maryland Client Privacy Policy

United Way of Central Maryland (“UWCM,” “we,” or “us”) respects client privacy. We take privacy very seriously and want our clients to know how we handle their information. Please note, this information is also provided at intake or orientation for programs operated by UWCM (outside of our 211 call center.)

We comply with all federal and state laws and regulations around protecting private information. We collect information from and about you when you participate and are admitted into a United Way of Central Maryland program. This information may include name, address, email address, telephone number, state of residence, birth month and year, age, gender, health information, occupation, and employer. This information is used to determine eligibility for programs, evaluate clients’ needs, and make referrals to other organizations so we can best serve you. We do not share this information outside of the organization without client permission with the following exceptions, as required by law:

  • When there is a threat of harm to oneself or someone else;
  • Reports of abuse or neglect of a minor or elder has been shared with a staff member, suspected by a staff member, or observed by a staff member.

We share aggregate information to funders, which means your data is combined with other client data to show high level data and does not include any information that would personally identify you.

An example of how aggregate data may be used:

Of the 500 clients that were served in the Homelessness Prevention Program in FY20, 98% of them have remained housed.
