Spotlight on…Taylor Braun

Date: July 22, 2015

Where do you work and what is your role?
I’m a project manager in the clinical informatics department at the University of Maryland Medical System. Our team manages all aspects of the medical system’s electronic medical record implementation.

What made you decide to become a leader with Emerging Leaders United?
Access to incredibly generous, intelligent people and unparalleled experiences to better understand and improve Baltimore’s resources and opportunities.

What has been your favorite moment with ELU so far?
The moment I walked into an ELU event and realized I was walking into a room full of friends. My first experience was a networking event and I remember being somewhat intimidated walking into a room full of people I didn’t know. I always tell people if you’re going to do it, this is the group to do it with! After attending only a few events I truly felt I was not only a part of the ELU movement, but that I had made meaningful connections.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
To follow advice I’d give, to trust my gut and to play big.

You couldn’t pay me to…
…be a flight attendant. I fly often but do not enjoy it.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
Flown across the country with less than 24 hours notice for a job interview, all while managing a moving company getting into my house and packing my belongings in California. It was also the best thing I’ve ever done, as it resulted in my employment at UMMS and my move to Baltimore!

Is there anything you want to share about ELU or giving back?
I’m incredibly grateful to have found ELU. It has truly enhanced all aspects of my life. I’ve found that I walk away from each ELU experience with something tangible — a new friend, a new perspective and always a better understanding of how to improve as a person and as a proud citizen of Baltimore.
